Like you, we care about our environment and the world in which we live. Our research covers areas including the protection of endangered species, such as tiger conservation in India, climate change, renewable energy and sustainability. We are working on the bigger picture of how to make our planet a more eco-friendly and sustainable place.
Protecting endangered species
One example is our scientists who are working in southern Tanzania looking into the decline of a number of species, including the Udzungwa Red Colobus, a monkey which is found nowhere else in the world. Our research shows the huge impact of human activities and recommends urgent action. PhD student Amani Kitegile said: "Human threats, especially from hunting and forest-degradation, are behind these declining trends."As a result, the Tanzanian Government are now taking action to upgrade some of the forests to nature reserves to try and protect these animals.
Tackling climate change
Our Global Sustainability Institute (GSI) was established in 2011 as part of our commitment to sustainability. Led by Dr Aled Jones, the GSI is working with the UK Government and other major organisations across the world to help shape policy and research in four key areas: Climate Action and Cultural Systems; Behaviour Change and Decision Making; Resource Management and Ecosystems Services; and Education for Sustainability.Through these partnerships, the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin is helping to make our world a more sustainable place.
