Together, Making a Difference
Here's how we are making a difference to your community

We help to support some of the most vulnerable in our society including children, victims of crime and disabled people. By giving to our work within your community, you are investing in those we all rely on - teachers, nurses, midwives, social workers and forensic scientists. In the UK and abroad, Anglia Ruskin is helping to improve and shape communities to make the world a safer, fairer and richer place.

International community projects

We train volunteers who participate in selected projects in international communities. Current projects include Mission Croatia and Mission Ukraine where we work in hospitals and also in centres where people with learning disabilities live. We decorate wards, their living areas or the offices of those who care for them. We help to keep the buildings in some sort of acceptable condition and generally try to improve the environment for staff and residents.

"My time in Croatia has been all I have spoken about since I have returned home. Full of tears and laughs, you become someone who appreciates the most important aspects of life."

Protecting children using the internet

A participatory project found that 1 in 5 of young people in the UK questioned had experienced cyber-bullying. The findings highlighted the growing problem of cyber-bullying, the reasons for it and the impact it had on the confidence, self-esteem and mental and emotional wellbeing of young people who were targeted. A series of recommendations designed to address these problems have been proposed.

This research will help children in the UK to be made safe from harassment and abuse via the internet and mobile phone.

Tackling anti-social behaviour

We are one of eight partners from EU countries researching anti-social behaviour and crime experienced by young people in the periods immediately before and after the school day. The aim of the project, which is funded by the European Commission, is to develop an online toolkit which will offer advice to teachers and students on how to make journeys safer.

This toolkit will help to prevent school children being affected by anti-social behaviour on their journey to and from school.

Training our regions nurses

Anglia Ruskin trains many of the region's nurses, midwives and social workers. Please watch this short video on why our students feel so passionate about nursing and being able to make a positive difference to their community.
