A talk by David Ryan
Date: Wednesday 26 January 2011
Time: 14.00
Venue: Ruskin 211
What does it mean to interrogate sound through the visual or vice versa? As well as looking at certain canonical texts such as Deleuze or Chion, this talk will aim to look at aspects of my own practice in order to answer these questions. In particular, Via di San Teodoro 8 (2010) together with works by Antonioni, Haneke and artists' videos. It will examine the possibilities of exploring the relationship between sound and image in such ways that step outside the traditional 'soundtrack' usage as well as the various traditions prevalent within popular culture.
