Visiting Artist: Phillip Allen

Date: Wednesday 6 April 2011
Time: 14.00
Venue: Ruskin 211

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1992, Phillip Allen has become known for his distinct approach to abstract painting. His work redresses and reinvigorates pictorial conventions, merging the traditions of abstraction and landscape painting, in a highly developed and individual manner. The result is a kaleidoscopic synthesis that is equally reminiscent of funfair rides, Islamic patterning, geometric abstraction, starburst galaxies, video games and the Russian avantgarde.

His recent solo exhibitions include: The Approach, London (2009 and 2011); Bernier Eliades Gallery, Athens (2010); Xavier Hufkens, Brussels (2007); Milton Keynes Gallery (2006); Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2005); and the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (2003). Selected group exhibitions include: "Classified" Tate Britain, (2009), "Archipeinture", Camden Arts Centre, London (2006) and "The British Art Show 6", BALTIC Gateshead and touring (2005).
