David Ryan will explore the controversial legacy of Cage, focusing on the visual work together with its roots in the critique of 1950s abstract expressionist practices. This will be in tandem with the Kettle's Yard exhibition 'Every Day is a Good Day.'
David researched Cage's approach to prints and drawing shortly after Cage's death, visiting Crown point press in San Francisco and MoMA, New York; he also has recently published chapters in the Ashgate Reader in Experimental Music 2009 and Changing the System: the Music of Christian Wolff 2010, both Ashgate Academic press.
