Fairtrade is a growing international movement that seeks greater equity in international trade, by offering better trading conditions. This secures the rights of farmers and workers in the developing world by ensuring a decent price is paid for goods covering production costs and providing both farmers and their workers a living wage.

The Fairtrade mark, a consumer label, appears on products as an independent guarantee that disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a better deal.

For a product to display the Fairtrade mark it must meet strict international Fairtrade standards set by the international certification body Fair-trade Labelling Organisations International.

There are around 2000 Fairtrade certified products in the UK ranging from tea, coffee and fresh fruit right through to clothing.

Anglia Ruskin University is committed to supporting and promoting Fairtrade and was awarded Fairtrade University Status in early 2007. Anglia Ruskin University and Anglia Ruskin Students Union both have a Fairtrade Policy.

Fairtrade products are available from our restaurants, vending machines, SU shops and bar, and can be included in hospitality orders.
