Environmental Management at Anglia Ruskin University

Anglia Ruskin University is firmly committed to sustainability and we are conscious of our impacts on the natural environment. One of our core values is to ensure that concern for a sustainable environment locally, nationally and internationally, is embedded in everything we do.

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is certified to the internationally recognised ISO 14001 standard, and we are one of a handful of universities to have currently achieved this. Our EMS is an important tool in enabling us to monitor our activities and reduce any negative impacts on the environment.

We actively participate in the Business in the Community Environmental Index (BiTC), achieving a Bronze Award in 2009/10. We have also maintained for the past 4 years a top ten ranking out of over 130 universities in the People and Planet Green League.

Our Environmental Policy defines our targets and objectives for energy consumption, CO2 emissions and landfill waste reductions. Our Environmental Strategy outlines how we will meet these aims, together with targets for water consumption and travel management.

To achieve our aim we encourage all staff, students and working partners to actively participate in Anglia Ruskin University's environmental initiatives.

Our Students' Union are actively involved in many environmental issues.
