Publications update from CoDE Director Dr Jussi Parikka
CoDE Director Jussi Parikka's article "Digital Monsters, Binary Aliens: Computer Viruses, Capitalism and the Flow of Information" has been republished as a new version by the Manchester based Thirdsound Press (2010). The article, which deals with viral software, discourses of security and the viral nature of capitalism itself, was originally published in 2005 in the Fibreculture Journal. Parikka's book Digital Contagions (2007) addressed the same themes.
A new review of The Spam Book, co-edited by Jussi Parikka and Tony Sampson, has also been released. Published in The Semiotic Review of Books issue 19.2 (pdf), it introduces the 2009 published book and gives a good overview of the importance in a cultural analysis of the dark underbelly of network culture - such as spam, viruses and like. The issue also includes CoDE visiting Research Fellow Roberta Buiani's text 'Biopolitical Ambiguity.'
