CEDAR: An Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Centre of Excellence
Welcome from the Director
Welcome to CEDAR - The Centre for Enterprise Development and Research. I hope these web pages give you a flavour of the different way we do things here. The focus of our work is to blend theory and practice to create knowledge, improve understanding and challenge thinking in the area of enterprise and entrepreneurial management. That might not sound so different, but what makes people want to work with us is not what we do, but the way in which we do it.
CEDAR comprises a unique mix of leading academics, expert practitioner teachers (individuals who run their own successful businesses but undertake teaching as part of their portfolio of activities) and world-class entrepreneurs. This remarkable CEDAR team collaborates closely across all CEDAR activities to inspire all those engaging with us, to empower them to get more out of themselves and more out of everyone around them.
We achieve this though:

We achieve this though:
- Delivering a ground breaking academic programme;
- Delivering cutting edge research;
- Running The Little Pitch, The Big Pitch and mentoring student start-ups as part of the university student; enterprise agenda;
- Undertaking inspirational international enterprise development projects in Romania and South Africa;
- Providing seed funding and mentoring for non-student start-up businesses in the Cambridge region;
- And many more things.
In April 2013, the work of CEDAR achieved national recognition when we became the first university enterprise centre to be given the great honour of becoming an Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE) Centre of Excellence.
In making CEDAR an IOEE Centre of Excellence, the commendation stated that 'The award is fully justified given the evidence of the commitment to enterprise learning and skills development in your application'.

Our aim is to be recognised as a world class university enterprise centre, or as Peter Taylor, CEO and joint founder of TTP and Chair of CEDAR puts it: 'In 10 years time we want a $1bn Cambridge company to say 'We did it the CEDAR way'.
We are often asked what it is we do, what is this 'CEDAR way'. Well, I hope the photograph to your right might help explain what I mean when I say, it is not what we do at CEDAR that makes the difference, but the way in which we do it.
Thanks for stopping by and do spend some time looking around the site to learn more about us.
