Salon du Livre et de la Presse Jeunesse, Montreuil 2013
From 30 November to 3 December 2012, Professor Martin Salisbury and a group of MA Children's Book Illustration and PhD students visited the Montreuil Children's Book Fair in Paris.
The visit was at the invitation of the salon organizers, who made available 2000 Euros in European Commission funding to the Centre for Children's Book Studies to facilitate the visit. As well as the main fair, promoting the vibrant French children's publishing industry, the fair included the launch of a major new international illustration competition, which Professor Salisbury, in collaboration with the fair, had been involved in designing. The students attended the launch on Monday 3 December.

The fair also featured exhibitions of artists' book works and many of the leading French illustrators were in attendance to sign books for children and adults. Professor Salisbury was an invited speaker at the one-day conference at the Bibliotheque Nationale, organized by the International Board for Books for Young People (IBBY). His presentation on British Picturebooks was followed by a round table discussion with illustrator, Axel Scheffler and Deirdre MacDermot of Walker Books.
