We're pleased to announce news of further recognition for graduates of our MA Children's Book Illustration degree - and some of the teaching staff as well.

Rebecca Patterson, who graduated from the course in 2012, has won the 6-and-under category in the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2012 for her book My Big Shouting Day. This year the competition, organised by Booktrust to celebrate the funniest books published for children, was judged not only by a panel including Michael Rosen, Mel Giedroyc and Lucy Mangan, but also, for the first time, by 500 schoolchildren from around the country. Rebecca was presented with her prize of £2,500 at an awards ceremony at the Unicorn Theatre in London earlier this month.

More information is available on the Booktrust website.

Meanwhile, the shortlist for this year's prestigious CILIP Kate Greenaway Children's Book Award have been announced, with several of our MA Children's Book Illustration graduates and teaching staff making an appearance. Included on the list are an impressive three nominations for Oliver Jeffers (for Stuck, This Moose Belongs to Me and The Hueys in The New Jumper), two for Alexis Deacon (for Croc and Soonchild), and one each for Jo Empson (for Rabbityness), Salvatore Rubbino (for Just Ducks!) and Rebecca Patterson (again, for My Big Shouting Day).

The Kate Greenaway Medal, named after the popular 19th century artist, was established in 1955 to celebrate distinguished illustration in children's books. This year's winner will receive a golden medal, £500 worth of books to donate to a library of their choice and also the £5,000 Colin Mears Award. A full list of nominees can be found on the Carnegie Greenaway website.
