From 4-8 July 2011, Martin Salisbury presented a one-week picturebook workshop at the annual Illustratour event in Valladolid, Northern Spain. The workshop was one of six that were presented over a two-week period by international artists and academics working in the field of children's book illustration. The other workshop presenters were Dorte Karrebaek and Ole Daalgard (Denmark), Ajubel (Cuba), Luis Garay (Nicaragua), Gustavo Puerta (Venezuela), Elena Odriozola (Spain) and Tony Ross (United Kingdom).

In between the workshops, a three-day conference featured lectures and discussions from the workshop presenters and other guests, including the great American picturebook maker and author of 'Writing With Pictures', Uri Shulevitz. The sell out conference took place at the Centro Municipal José Luis Mosquera.
