Two workshops with Professor Dr Werner Delanoy

Date: 1 March 2010

Workshop One: Gloria Anzaldúa

Time: 11.00-12.00
Venue: Helmore 302

In this workshop the focus is on the Mexican-American writer and scholar Gloria Anzaldúa (1942-2004). Attention will be drawn to her theory of transculturality by discussing some of the key concepts informing her work. Some of her poems and two of her books for children will be introduced to invite discussion of her approach on a more concrete level.

Workshop Two: Transculturality as a new paradigm for (inter)cultural learning?

Time: 18.00-20.00
Venue: Helmore 207

This workshop concerns the concept of transculturality and some of its implications for (inter)cultural learning. The focus is on Wolfgang Welsch's definition of the term, and attention will be drawn to the limitations of Welsch's understanding of transculturality to make the concept more inclusive of the diverse and manifold modalities of cultural mixing. As a result, a differentiated approach to transculturality will be introduced and illustrated with the help of concrete practical examples.
