Gloria Anzaldúa: A transcultural perspective?
Date: 16 March 2011
Time: 18.00 - 20.00
Venue: Helmore 251
Speaker: Professor Dr Werner Delanoy, Klagenfurt University, Austria
In this lecture-cum-workshop the focus is on the Mexican-American writer and scholar Gloria Anzaldúa (1942-2004). On the one hand, attention will be drawn to her theory of The New Mestiza by discussing some of the key concepts informing her work. Furthermore, her concept will be compared and contrasted with notions of transculturality as suggested in recent theoretical debates. On the other hand, some of her poems and two of her books for children (Friends from the other side / Amigos del notro lado; Prietita and the ghost woman / Prietita y la Llorona) will be introduced to invite discussion of her approach on a more concrete level.
