Studying at Anglia Ruskin has been an extremely positive experience for me in terms of personal growth and it has provided me with a very good foundation upon which to build upon in terms of my career. For students who are serious about pursuing a career in psychology, the Psychology department at Anglia Ruskin is a really good place to be, many of the lecturers are experts in their fields and well-positioned to advise you in any particular interest you may have. The support and advice of lecturers within the department has been invaluable.

James Lyon - Chelmsford

BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management 2007 -2010 (graduated with 1st class honours)

I was attracted to studying at Anglia Ruskin as I had read that a significant amount of investment was being put into the institution. The location suited me as I live in the London suburbs so access was easy via car or train.

I have most enjoyed the practical side of the course. It is much easier to relate to a situation when you can see the physical aspect of your project or report. Not only is the course accredited by the RICS, allowing candidates to progress towards their APC qualification, it also gives an insight into other industry professionals and their roles within the built environment.

Studying at Anglia Ruskin University has made me realise that there are no boundaries and you can certainly reap the rewards if you manage your time wisely by working hard but also by having a good time.

Ninal Mistry - Cambridge

BOptom (Hons) Optometry, 3rd year

The course has exceeded my expectations because I didn't realise how much knowledge and expertise were required for a routine sight test. I have found the course challenging but rewarding. The on-campus clinic has been a huge benefit, it is open to the public and allows us to gain practical experience. The University also maintain links with the major optical retailers such as Boots, Specsavers and Vision Express - who all gave presentations at the University to help recruit students for their Pre-Registration period.

The support offered by all the staff and the small class sizes is fantastic! Whenever I have required additional help the staff have always been receptive and made the effort to ensure that I fully understand. The delivery of the teaching has been excellent and I have always felt valued as a student.

Julie Mortimer - Chelmsford

BSc (Hons) Construction Management (part-time), 3rd year

As a working mum I needed to study within a reasonable travelling distance from home and I was fortunate that Anglia Ruskin offered the exact course I looking for on a part-time basis. The course has mostly definitely been one of the most rewarding things I have ever undertaken. I thought as part-time student I would feel very much on the outside of University life, but due to the huge effort of staff, I have not felt this at all. At times when I have struggled with the workload, there has always been support and encouragement. Staff respond quickly to enquiries, which is so important when you only attend the campus one day a week.

My group of fellow part-time students have been a delight. We have supported each other and learnt to maximise our individual contributions to best effect in our team work.

Teresa Matthews - Cambridge

BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour & Animal Welfare 2007-2010 (graduated with first class honours)

My course contained a good proportion of animal welfare modules as well as animal behaviour modules. The field trip to Devon was brilliant - hard work but also great fun. The opportunity to do a lot of different practical biology tasks was great and even being freezing cold and soaking wet on a beach has somehow turned into a great memory! The practical laboratory classes are also particularly useful, especially the chance to practice PCR techniques in Conservation Genetics. Overall I loved my time at Anglia Ruskin.

My studies made it possible for me to apply for the PhD programme I was interested in. The experience of completing the dissertation gave me the opportunity to complete research in my field of interest and made the difference in making me the successful applicant for the PhD.

Natasha Botterill - Cambridge

BSc (Hons) Forensic Science, 2nd year

I chose to study at Anglia Ruskin because it is one of the best universities in the country that teach forensic science and it was highly recommended. The course is very practical which makes learning more interesting. Last year I loved the fire practical and riot training session. I can't speak highly enough of how approachable and knowledgeable all the lecturing staff are. I would recommend this course to others, it's very interesting and provides a good grounding for a future career in forensic science.

The Forensic Science Society run by the Student Union has helped me to integrate both socially and academically. The members are wonderful and have become good friends of mine. After completing my first year with excellent grades I have a great sense of achievement which has boosted my confidence and I am now more focused on my future.

Joel Waller - Chelmsford

HND Quantity Surveying (Part-time), 3rd year

I chose Anglia Ruskin University because it was a local RICS accredited course, with a good reputation for its building department.

I am currently employed as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and studying at Anglia Ruskin has been very helpful as they reinforce my work related skills, to give me the expertise to perform my job more effectively. I hope to become a Senior Quantity Surveyor and I believe this will be successfully achieved through the completion of my current HND and then taking the final step to convert this into a degree.

Having a large percentage of staff from industry has been very beneficial as this helps to keep teaching job specific. It's been hard work but an exciting, enjoyable, learning experience and I would definitely recommend the course.

Graeme Nicol - Chelmsford

BSc Computer Science, 2nd year

I was initially attracted to studying here as I have always been interested in computers and this course seemed great for increasing my understanding and knowledge. I came to an Open Day where I found the campus tour really beneficial, and was impressed with the facilities available.

With my studies, I have found that the staff and the facilities are excellent. The lecturers really know their stuff and how to make the subject fun, and offer both appointment-based support and office drop-in sessions.

I have benefited from the University's Microsoft Academic Alliance which has helped me to get the software needed to complete my work. I enjoy the database design and implantation and Human Computer Interaction (HCI), and am currently having fun working with my group on our group design project.
