Young England Rugby prospect put through his paces by our Sports Science Programme

Staff from our Sports and Exercise Science programme have been helping young English Rugby player Keiran Ball get back to full fitness following injury. Sports Science Research Assistant Oliver Caddy has been working with Keiran in Conjunction with elite trainers from Core Cambridge.

Keiran, whose playing position is prop forward, had previously represented England, Saracens and Essex at youth level before sustaining an injury that forced him to take time out of the game. He approached Anglia and Core Cambridge with a view to undertaking a rigorous summer training programme that would enable him to return to competitive action as early as possible into the new rugby season.

Oliver put Keiran through a battery of gruelling tests to assess his fitness levels and conditioning, the results of which are being used to monitor the success of his training and rehabilitation.

Speaking of the testing, Oliver commented, "We tested lower limb power and aerobic fitness. Kieran's professional approach to the testing allowed us to provide him and Core Cambridge with a solid and reliable set of results. These results will give a basis from which training can be prescribed and progress can be measured, and we look forward to seeing continuing gains."
