Our Vision and Eye Research Unit (VERU) recently had the pleasure of welcoming two distinguished guest speakers to our Cambridge campus for the Symposium event that took place on the 23 March. Dr Susan Chung, Associate of Optometry and Vision Science at the Berkley University, California gave a talk entitled 'Critical Features for Face Perception in the Presence of Central Vision Loss'. Susan's talk summarised the findings of a series of recent psychological studies into the critical 'features' used in recognition and perception of facial expressions and explained how these findings could be used to help develop an effective image enhancement algorithm that could improve the ability of people with central vision loss to see faces.
