Sports Science welcomes Cambridge United and Histon back for second round of fitness testing
Our Sport and Exercise Sciences programme recently welcomed Histon and Cambridge United footballers back to the Cambridge Campus to undergo a second round of testing design to assess their mid season fitness levels.
The players were subjected to a number of carefully selected tests carried out over a number of days by academics and students. The tests were chosen to replicate body movements regularly performed by footballers and included muscle strength, Aerobic capacity, endurance, sprint speed and agility, lower limb quickness and vertical leap assessments.
The results from the latest round of testing will be compared to the data gained from pre-season testing to establish the relative fitness levels of the team and inform training sessions for the remainder of the season as Histon look to secure their safety in the Blue Square North and Cambridge United hope to push on to the Blue Square Premier play-offs and hopefully promotion back to the football league.
Sports Science Research Assistant Oliver Caddy, who helped supervise much of the testing commented "We were happy to welcome Histon and Cambridge once more to Anglia for their mid-season testing. They were put through rigorous testing for endurance, speed and agility. Once again they showed a range of improvements from the start of the season. Of course, this bodes well for them and from where we are standing the players are looking in good condition for the rest of the season. Once again we are looking forward to seeing both teams to convert their fitness into goals".
