Sports Science welcomes pro cyclist for testing

Sports Science Research Assistant Oliver Caddy recently welcomed Cambridgeshire based professional cyclist David Mclean to our Cambridge Campus to undergo a series of rigorous tests designed to assess his fitness levels ahead of the pro season.

David, who is signed up to Italian Continental Level Professional team Meridiana for the first half of upcoming season and has just returned to the UK from an intensive winter training camp in Gran Canaria, undertook testing for VO2max (maximum oxygen uptake) and setting of his training zones from the measurement of lactic acid at various work rates.

Oliver Commented on David's performance in the testing "These tests are extremely demanding but David always steps us to the plate and gives his all".

David, who expects to be racing against top riders across Europe in the coming months, commented "It's really important for me to be tested regularly and accurately so I can train as efficiently as possible, Anglia Ruskin have always provided me with an extremely professional service, using the best and most reliable equipment available. 2012 is going to be a big season for me as I will ride my most difficult and fullest calendar to date, so any advantage I can get from ARU is crucial".

David is also fundraising to allow him to compete for the second half of the season, further information can be found on David's Website.
