Built Environment students impress employers
Built Environment students recently had the opportunity to meet with employers and representatives from the industry boards to discus graduate recruitment and placement opportunities within the industry.
Organised jointly by Student Services' Employability and Careers team and the Faculty of Science & Technology, the fair was attended by over 100 students and employers from sectors including architecture, surveying, main contractors, structural and civil engineering.
The employers were impressed with the calibre of students they met and found the event an excellent way to engage with them in an informal setting.
One employer said:
"We were impressed with the quality and enthusiasm of the students we met. We would definitely consider taking on some of the candidates we spoke to."
Feedback from students has also been very positive, and plans are already afoot to run a similar event in semester one 2012 - 13 for all students within the Faculty of Science & Technology.
Since the event, a number of students have been invited for interviews and, so far, one has been offered a permanent role with an employer who attended the fair. Also, through the marketing undertaken for the event, three employers have taken the opportunity to advertise their graduate vacancies through the Employability and Careers team, and a number have said they will support a similar event for their recruitment needs in the next academic year.
