Anglia Ruskin's impressive new audio studio
A brand new £1.2m audio studio has revolutionised the learning experience for students studying audio and music technology related courses at Anglia Ruskin University from September 2012.
Fitted with a range of industry standard equipment and software, the 163.2 sq meters of studio space rivals that of many commercially run studios, incorporating five fully sound proofed, climate controlled recording studios. The performance room in the main studio is large enough to accommodate ensembles such as choirs, orchestral groups and bands.
With students' learning at the forefront of the design, the equipment has been chosen and distributed so that each studio becomes successively more complex. This allows students to start at a point that suits their current knowledge and abilities before moving on to the more complex rooms, until finally being able to confidently operate the flagship main studio.
In response to student feedback the new labs also address previous issues with sound proofing, acoustic treatments and the general environment.
Nick Townsend, Studio Manager, said:
"The commissioning of these new facilities represents a landmark opportunity for our students, the Department, Faculty, and, University. Couple this with our recent accreditation by industry body JAMES and it is safe to say that Anglia Ruskin has now placed itself firmly on the map as one of the top choice institutions for aspiring sound engineers and record producers."
Students from the technology courses, including Audio Music Technology, Audio & Video Masters, Audio Engineering and Media & Internet Technology and Computer Gaming will have use of the studios, as well as students from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences.
