Vision and Hearing showcases research in San Francisco

Academics from our Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences have recently presented their research at one of America's largest Optometry Research and Education conferences.

The event, organised by the American Academy of Optometry and taking place in San Francisco between the 17th and 20th November was the largest in the Academy's history, attended by over 5,800 delegates. Lecturer Yvonne Norgett presented a paper titled "Crowding in children's visual acuity measurement: the importance of gaze control and contour interaction". Optometry Pathway Leader Rupal Lovell-Patel presented a poster on the effect of sport-tinted contact lenses on visual function, and Head of Department Dr John Siderov also presented a poster titled "Contour interaction with Sheridan Gardiner prototypes - When 2+2 does not equal 4"

With over 300 hours of Optometry research and education, the conference provided a great opportunity to network and develop student collaborations. Speaking about the trip, Rupal Lovell-Patel commented, "This conference provides a great platform to showcase the current research within the department and VERU (Vision and Eye Research Unit) to a large international audience".
