Profile:
I have worked for the Scottish Wildlife Trust, English Nature/Natural England and at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (Monks Wood). The main bulk of work involved field surveying, site management and interpretation of field data. I have run many botanical field trips in a variety of habitats, and have designed and tested a variety of monitoring protocols for use by professionals and skilled volunteers. Currently studying (part-time) for a PhD in "Passive wetland creation at a landscape scale" at Anglia Ruskin, Cambridge.
Research Interests:
I am a botanist with an interest in phytosociological studies, eco-hydrology and seed dispersal. My current work is based at Anglia Ruskin University and involves designing and implementing long-term monitoring protocols within two landscape-scale wetland restoration sites in Cambridgeshire, UK. In parallel with this work, I am studying for a PhD (part time), investigating the contribution of the soil seed bank, extensive grazing, seed dispersal mechanisms and soil porosity to landscape-scale wetland restoration.
Consultancy and other Professional Activity:
- Botanical Secretary for Wicken Fen Local Management Committee.
- Member of the Great Fen Technical Advisory Committee.
- Member of the Botanical Society of the British Isles.
