- Joint scheme organiser of the UK Ladybird Survey and co-author of "Ladybirds (Coccinellidae) of Britain and Ireland" and "Ladybirds (Naturalists Handbooks 10)".
- Recording Invasive Species Counts (RISC) - a public outreach project for recording non-native animals & plants (funded by Defra).
- Worldwide spread of the harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis.
- Ecology of the harlequin ladybird and its impact on native ladybird species.
- Detection of intraguild predation of ladybirds using genetic techniques.
- Citizen science.
- I work collaboratively with researchers at various institutions in Britain (including NERC Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, University of Cambridge, University of Hull and Rothamsted Research), Europe and the USA.
