Forensic Analysis Conference Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge

Forensic Analysis builds on the success of Forensic Analysis 2010 (Huddersfield). The series brings together scientists and practitioners working in the fields of forensic science and analytical chemistry. Primarily for researchers and experts to present their latest results, the series has a strong focus on networking. Themes at this year's conference include:

Dr Robert Kronstrand

Dr Robert Krontrand - Keynote Speaker 'Emerging Technologies'

Dr Robert Kronstrand is currently Associate Professor in Forensic Toxicology at Linköping University and working at the National Board of Forensic Medicine in Sweden. He received his BS degree in analytical chemistry in 1989, and his PhD in human toxicology in 2001, both from the University of Linköping, Sweden. In 1990, he joined the National Board of Forensic Medicine, Department of Forensic Toxicology located in Linköping, Sweden. Dr Kronstrand has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of postmortem toxicology, DUID, DFSA and drug testing in various matrices. His research has covered a wide range of topics over the years, including opiate toxicity and analytical toxicology with focus on the incorporation of drugs into hair. Over the last 10 years, LC-MS-MS as a technique has been another focus of his research. Dr Kronstrand has been engaged as a teacher at the Faculty of Health Sciences, lecturer at the masters programs in chemistry and forensic science at Linköping University and has been advisor to students in medicine, biology and chemistry and is currently supervising three PhD students. He is a member of several scientific organizations including AAFS, TIAFT, SOFT and SoHT.

Simon Hudson - Keynote Speaker 'Competitive Sport & Drug Testing'

Simon Hudson has over 25 years in human and animal doping control developing and using methods based on primarily on GCMS and LCMS. More recently he was responsible for the introduction of high resolution accurate mass LCMS to HFL. His current interests/work beyond the daily delivery of a comprehensive anti doping service include the analysis and identification of street drugs and synthetic cannabinoids, pooled urine testing for drugs of abuse in various human sub populations and the development of data processing strategies for HRAM LCMS.

Professor David Osselton - Keynote Speaker 'Quality Standards in Forensic Science'

Professor David Osselton joined the UK Forensic Science Service in 1974 and became Head of Drugs, Alcohol and Toxicology Research at the Home Office Central Research Establishment in Aldermaston in 1984. In 1991 he was appointed Head of Toxicology for the Forensic Science Service where he was responsible for developing toxicology services in addition to undertaking casework and providing advice to Government departments on drug testing. He has been involved in a number of high profile cases for the defence and prosecution both in the UK and overseas. He is author / co-author of over 90 published papers / book chapters in toxicology and is a co-editor of Clarkes Analysis of Drugs and Poisons, the standard textbook for drug and poison identification. In January 2007 he joined the staff of Bournemouth University as Director of the Centre for Forensic Sciences. His specialist area of study is in the field of drugs, alcohol and toxicology, an area in which he has over 34 years of experience.

Professor Allan Jamieson - Keynote Speaker 'Human Identification'

Professor Jamieson is the Director of The Forensic Institute, Glasgow and Visiting Professor of Forensic Science at Staffordshire University. He is an internationally recognised expert in criminal cases having provided evidence and advice in over 1000 cases in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Cyprus, and the USA. These include high profile cases such as the Omagh Bomb trial of Sean Hoey, the inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and cases at the Court of Criminal Appeal including R v T (on footwear) and R v Otway (on gait analysis).

Invited as'a scientist and scholar' to sign amicus brief to the California Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court of the US on the use of statistics and DNA in Court, and the Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit of the US (on fingerprints) He is on the Approved Roster as a DNA expert for the State of New York (where he is currently involved in casework).

He is Co-Editor in Chief of the 6-volume Wiley's Encyclopaedia of Forensic Sciences, a member of the Editorial Board of Biologist, and published widely.

He is currently external examiner for forensic sciences at Edinburgh University and The University of Kent at Canterbury, and was external examiner at Kings College, London (Forensic Science), Hendon Police College (Crime scene examination and fingerprints), and at the Universities of Dundee and Heriot-Watt (Forensic Science).

He has chaired the Standards Committee of the Forensic Science Society, the Scottish Council of the Institute of Biology, and the UK Biotechnology and is currently a member of the Professional Recognition Panel for the award of Chartered Scientist at the Society of Biology.
