Why study Biomedical Science?

Biomedical Science is a continually changing, dynamic profession with good long-term career prospects including specialised laboratory work, research, education and management. It is the "engine room" of modern medicine, where samples taken by a doctor or nurse are analysed by a biomedical scientist. Without biomedical scientists, doctors would not be able to diagnose diseases properly or treat patients effectively.

Today's biomedical scientists are found in modern, bright surroundings using the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Graduates in Biomedical Science enjoy a very high level of employment. Many choose to work in a hospital pathology laboratory; other options include forensic science laboratories, the blood transfusion service, the Medical Research Council, university laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturers, plus a wide variety of other science-informed graduate careers. Significant numbers of graduates opt to further their studies at MPhil and PhD level.

Courses at Anglia Ruskin University

We offer two undergraduate degree titles:
  • Foundation degree in Healthcare Science
  • Biomedical Science, BSc (Hons)
Please see our course page for details of these courses, both of which can be studied on a part-time basis. Students will be taught on the Cambridge campus.

Our department also delivers an MSc Biomedical Science. This distance learning programme is ideally suited to qualified biomedical scientists, already in full or part-time employment, who wish to advance their studies within their chosen specialism.

IBMS

Professional Body Accreditation

Our Biomedical Science degrees (BSc and MSc) are accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

We offer a range of stand-alone modules that can be studied by biomedical scientists wishing to continue their professional development. For further information please visit our Biomedical Science CPD modules page.
