Minerals Planning Essentials Couse

Assessing Minerals Site Viability - Friday 19 July 2013

This one day course will address a major challenge for minerals planners and planning authorities, including to ensure the funding of essential infrastructure, quality after-use and wider mitigation measures.

Contributors include:
  • David Sandbrook FRICS, MRTPI, MCIWM - Technical Director, SLR Consulting Ltd, an experienced minerals sites valuer
  • Operator and local authority perspectives
The course will cover:
  • minerals economics, prices and haulage distances/costs
  • expected returns to landowners and operators, and typical site development agreements
  • profit margins for different scheme sizes and types
  • site costings including haul roads, processing plant, weighbridges, silt and fresh water lagoons, planting schemes and restoration
  • infrastructure needs analysis including highways
  • case studies of recent sites
  • practical exercise, modelling what needs to be in an excel to calculate value and infrastructure needs
