Research
The Department of Computing and Technology has a range of facilities that are available in both campuses, supporting teaching and research. New, high specification digital media and recording studios were recently commissioned in Cambridge, installed with professional spec audio equipment. In Chelmsford, new laboratories support computing, gaming, multimedia, animation, web design, engineering and medical engineering. A wide range of general purpose and specialist software packages are available in both campuses, as well as CISCO facilities, the department being an accredited CISCO training provider.
The department has a good research base (45% staff with PhDs, hosts 40 research students). The main research clusters are focused on: engineering simulation analysis, medical engineering, electronic systems modelling and digital controllers design, renewable energy, automotive / manufacturing engineering, digital media, telecommunications, internet technology, image processing, audio and sound engineering. A range of industrial and public health sector collaborations are underway, including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and research consultancy contracts. The departmental research groups are:
