Schools Partnership

Art students in a life drawing class
The Department of Education works in strong partnership with schools across the region in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and some London boroughs.

We value the contribution of our partner schools very highly and work collaboratively to produce inspiring teachers of the future. Many of our trainee teachers are subsequently employed by our partner schools, and schools in the Eastern Region.

Please find below the Department of Education and Schools' Partnership Newsletters where you will find out our latest news and upcoming events as well as a flyer about our CPD courses and our latest Ofsted report.

School partnership placements

Our partnership schools provide placements for approximately 400 students on the BA (Hons) Primary Initial Teacher Education or our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Primary programme, which now incorporate an Early Primary Education and a Primary Education with Modern Languages pathway. Our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary programmes offer subject specialist trainees in English, ICT, Modern Languages, Mathematics and Science.

Benefits to your school and staff

For your school, involvement in providing placements for any of these programmes would provide opportunities to develop future teachers, who in turn, can bring new ideas and enthusiasm to the classroom. Mentoring a trainee during their school placement is also a great opportunity for professional development for your existing staff and can be very rewarding. Anglia Ruskin University holds mentor training at various times throughout the academic year. Payment for supporting school experience placements is offered, to varying degrees, dependent on the type of placement.

Becoming a partnership school

We always welcome new schools to become involved with our department, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss these possibilities with you. You may be interested in joining either our Primary or Secondary Steering Group, which meets once a term and is involved in developing our programmes and aspects of the school and university training. Please contact our School Partnership Administrators for either Primary or Secondary who in turn will be able to provide you with information on placement opportunities, mentor training and payment support available to your school.

We look forward to hearing from you.
