Operating Department Practice Taster Days
Operating Department Practice... worth thinking about?
- The chance to speak to current staff and students;
- Practical experience of the operating theatre environment;
- Useful tips on applying
- Information regarding funding.
Please note that because of room restrictions we regret that we cannot accept family or friends in the taster day sessions and therefore if they are interested in visiting the university, we would recommend that they attend Open Days or Open Evenings.

Chelmsford taster day
Summer 2011
The presentation was very good! John made it more interesting and everything was very clear, giving me a better understanding of what it is like to work as an ODP.
The examples and his life experience working in the operating theatre department were an eye opener. It was worth attending the taster day as I was able to hear first hand information and this has really helped me decide whether I would like to go ahead and apply for a place or not. I will definitely do!
It was also good to hear experiences from the first year student who was available. She really helped by giving us advice and some hints which I found to be useful.
Fulbourn taster day
Spring 2011
The event was well organised, there was a lot of thought put into it so that the participants could actually have a feel of what this role involves. What I enjoyed most was the demonstration of the practical skills required - intubating the dummy etc.
I very much enjoyed the taster day and it reinforced my decision to apply.
