Emma Bricknell Case Study

Emma Bricknell

BSc Midwifery

I'm Emma Bricknell and I am a 3rd year student in Midwifery. My placement is in a postnatal ward of five mums and babies. I deal with the drugs round, doctor rounds and telephone enquiries. I initially chose to study midwifery due to the everyday challenges and the way in which the course was structured with blocks of theory and placement.

I would recommend the course to others because the support and teaching I have received have guided me to become part of a team which cares and makes childbearing experiences enjoyable for women and families. So far in my 2 years at Anglia Ruskin, there has been ups and downs, stressful and enjoyable times but when I look back I have really enjoyed my experience and am proud of the progress I have achieved.

I chose to study at Anglia Ruskin because of the environment in which I would be studying and the facilities available. The skills lab are great for practice before placement, there are always computers free and there are plenty of resources in the library. There also are resources such as the doll and pelvis or the fetal skull which we use during lessons to help us understand and visualise the anatomy and physiology of labour.

I hope to work as a qualified midwife in the hospital trust where I trained. Then maybe travel so that I can achieve different experiences.
