Student Nurse organises fundraising Trek to Kilimanjaro
Darren Hipwell, a third year nursing student, has decided to raise funds for his placement hospital by embarking on a trek to Kilimanjaro. Darren is on placement at Peterborough district hospital and would like the money he raises to benefit the Oncology and Cardiac wards at PDH.
"My reasons for choosing the cardiac and oncology ward were both personal and professional. They are areas I have a keen interest in on a professional level and on the other hand several persons close to me have been touched by cancer and heart disease."
Darren got the idea to undertake the trek by talking to friend who had some fundraising experience. Both of them plan to go on the trek as part of a larger group and he has already starting to prepare physically for the adventure by walking, cycling and going to the gym.
"I thought it would be such a wonderful achievement to do something like this and it is the kind of challenge I like."
Darren plans to go on the trek in March 2011 during his spring break. If you would like to learn more about this project or to make a donation, contact Darren at: darrencharles@hotmail.co.uk or 07808718813.
