Student nominated for RCN Fellows Student Nurse of the Year

Joanne Tonkin
Anglia Ruskin University student Joanne Tonkin has been shortlisted for the prestigious RCN Fellows Student Nurse Award.

Joanne, 24, who is originally from Colchester, is about to begin the final year of her three-year DipHE in Adult Nursing at Fulbourn and lives in student accommodation at Addenbrookes Hospital.

The RCN Fellows Student Nurse Award received more applications than any other category and Joanne has already had to submit a 500-word reflective submission and undergo an interview in front of the judging panel at the Royal College of Nursing's headquarters in London.

Joanne said that it was a real honour to be nominated for such a prestigious award. She added that to be in the final two was a great confidence boost and made her feel proud to be going into the nursing profession.

The awards honour nurses who have demonstrated inspirational and innovative care. The awards ceremony will be held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 28 April and there is a cash prize of £1,000 on offer to the winner. The ceremony will be hosted by celebrity television presenter Angela Rippon OBE.

Grahame Douglas, Joanne's tutor

"This is a fantastic achievement for Joanne, she has been a excellent student and will no doubt go onto be a fabulous nurse."
