A Casino, silent sports auction and an ice luge are just three things on offer at a charity ball at the Radisson SAS Hotel at Stansted Airport in February.

The Crystal Ball, in aid of research at the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity, offers people a chance to enjoy an evening out with friends, family or colleagues while raising funds for a good cause.

Guests will be treated to a drinks reception, three-course dinner, live entertainment and a live band to dance the night away to.

The Essex-based Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2009 and the Crystal Ball is an important fundraiser in a busy year of fundraising. 2009 will be an exciting year for the charity with plenty of activity going on, but the Crystal Ball will be one of the main fundraising events of the year.

In addition, guests will have the opportunity to take part in the raffle and silent sport auction which has many superb lots.

Special events coordinator Kay Puddick said:

"One in three people are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and our aim is to become a ray of hope for them, their families and friends.

The charity funds research scientists at the Helen Rollason Research Laboratory based at the Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford, Essex. The scientists are currently looking into why cancer cells from the breast stray to other parts of the body and why some cancers are resistant to chemotherapy.

Research is an important section of the charity, which also funds research nurses who are dedicated to caring for cancer patients on clinical drug trials.

The funds raised from the Crystal Ball will allow us to continue these important studies in cancer research.

I do hope you can join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable evening."

The charity helps cancer patients from across Essex, Herts and London and is valued by many people whose lives have been touched by cancer.

The charity has two cancer care centres, a research laboratory, research nurses along with 10 retail shops and a cancer support group.

There are a number of ways to get involved with the Crystal Ball: we have sponsorship and advertising opportunities, match giving, cash donation plus donating items for the raffle and auction lots.

The charity relies on donations from the public to continue its work: therefore sponsors and donations play a vital role in offsetting expenses involved in organising the ball.

The Crystal Ball is on February 28, 2009, from 6.45pm until 1am at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Stansted Airport.
