Syracuse University visit
3 May 2013
On the 26th April, the Department of Family and Community Studies (FHSCE) was pleased to welcome two distinguished guests to our Cambridge campus. We welcomed Eileen Lantier, the Senior Associate Dean of the David B. Falk College of Sports and Human Dynamics of Syracuse University (SU) in New York and Matt Bonham, Professor of International Relations and Political Science, at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, SU.
Continuing the fruitful conversation which started last summer (when Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean Professor David Humber, Marina Bush and Adriana Sandu visited SU) the various options the Faculty could offer SU students who wish to study abroad were discussed in detail.
The collaboration would start next spring with a short course (10 days) taster programme followed by a semester out programme (which could include an internship program). Content for the taster programme would come from our social policy and public health degrees to give the US students a real insight and hopefully lead to them signing up for the semester out programme with us.
In addition to this, Faculty staff from Social Policy, Public Health and Social Work explored common research interests between the two universities, such as global governance, public health, citizenship and social inclusion.
