Students nominated for Student Nursing Times Awards
29 April 2013
Two students from our Faculty have been nominated for the 2nd Student Nursing Times Awards. Adam Roxby (student nurse) has been nominated for the award of 'Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs' and Sharon Cass (student midwife) has been nominated for 'Student Midwife of the Year'.
The awards celebrate the best in student nursing and nurse education with the ceremony being held on the 1st of May at the Grange St. Paul's Hotel, London.
Sharon commented on her nomination:
"When I heard about the awards I initially thought 'no way', but when I read through the judges' criteria for applicants, I decided to give it a go. I told one of my tutors that I was thinking of applying and it was with her encouragement that I decided to submit my application. Within two weeks of submitting the form, I received an email informing me that I had been shortlisted as a finalist for the "Student Midwife of the Year" category and the next step was an interview.
"The interview consisted of 3 midwives from universities throughout England asking me questions about what winning the award would mean to me and how being a finalist or winner would help me in my midwifery career. It was an informal 15-minute chat, rather than a grueling interview, but it was nevertheless quite intense.
"I feel very proud and honored to have been selected as a finalist for this national award; not only is it acknowledgement of the (almost) 3 years' hard work I have dedicated to being a student midwife, but it is also a reflection of the outstanding tutorship I have received from both Anglia Ruskin University and placement mentors."
Jenni Middleton, Editor of the Nursing Times and www.studentnursingtimes.net commented:
"It has been wonderful to see those students who have been excelling in their studies and going the extra mile; and the mentors, lecturers and educational providers that have been continuing to shape and inspire our nurses of the future."
In addition to the student awards, Peterborough based lecturers Stewart Piper and Gill Ballard have been nominated in the category of 'Partnership of the year' for their work with Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
