Outline of career

Sue first qualified as a nursery nurse in 1975 working in Local Authority Day Nurseries. Sue also worked in a Special Care Baby Unit which led to beginning a nursing programme.

Sue practiced in the NHS for over twenty years in a variety of settings which included children's medical, surgical and Isolation wards and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. As Sue's career developed she had a variety of roles which included Paediatric Bed Manager, Matron and Named Nurse for Safeguarding.

In 2005, Sue began working at Anglia Ruskin University as a Senior Lecturer working as personal tutor, module leader, supervising undergraduate project, teaching leadership and management and the underpinning philosophies of children's nursing. Sue has been involved in the design and development of modules. Sue also links with practitioners supporting student in practice.



Research Interests

The research focus at masters studies was on leadership and management within children's inpatient services.

Sue is currently undertaking PhD studies exploring the extent to which children and young people have rights to make decision in their healthcare journey from the views of children and young people.



Selected Publications

During 2009, Sue work on a consultation project with practice partners to gain the views of children and young people's choices related to colour and thematic choices for a new children's burns ward. In 2010, in collaboration with practice partners, presented a poster at the Australian and New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting.

Sue has recently contributed to a publication called Essential Nursing Care for Children and Young People.
