Outline of Career

Shirley joined Anglia Ruskin University in 2000 as a Senior Researcher in the application of new technologies in Education. Her first project was to manage the publication of thousands of web pages produced by school pupils to celebrate the Millennium for the award-winning Tesco SchoolNet 2000 web site. She went on to facilitate online communities of headteachers for the National College for School Leadership, followed by the Ultraversity project to develop online, work-based learning.

Her background in Voluntary Service Overseas (Nigeria) and teaching Mathematics, Computing, English as a Second/Foreign Language, Theory of Knowledge and Special Needs in London and Singapore have influenced her research into online learning.

As an associate of the Chartered Management Institute, Shirley combines her professional interests in work-based learning with a systematic approach to continuing professional development.

Research Interests

Shirley's current research interests are: e-learning, social software in Higher Education, virtual learning environments in Higher Education, the changing role of lecturers, digital creativity in education and patchwork media.
