Outline of Career

Sharon trained as a Registered General Nurse and worked mainly in surgical nursing before undertaking her Registered Midwifery Training. She worked as a Team Midwife for a number of years and continues to work locally as a practicing midwife

Sharon has worked in Midwifery Education for the last 15 years. Since 2007 she has been the Director of Continuing Professional Development for the Faculty of Health Social Care & Education. As a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery she has responsibility for teaching on the Examination of the Newborn Module.



Research Interests

Continuing Professional Development- impact of CPD on service provision. Midwifery specific; post-registration midwifery- examination of the newborn.Integration of examination of the newborn into pre-registration curriculum. Breastfeeding. Health education and promotion in midwifery.
