Outline of Career
Sharon practiced for twenty years within the NHS as a children's nurse in a variety of settings. Initially working with children, young people and families on children's ward followed by a number of years working within paediatric intensive care units specialising in cardio thoracic medical and surgical nursing. Her latter years of practice were within community children's nursing as a senior sister and team leader. In addition, Sharon has worked in Alice Spring, Australia, caring for children and young people with gastroenteritis as well as general paediatrics.In 2006, Sharon started working within the university teaching modules with child branch nursing students on the pre- registration programmes. Presently she facilitates child branch groups and supervise undergraduate projects, alongside teaching and running modules. Sharon has been involved in the design and provision of programmes of education and training, in particular the CPD module on children and young peoples palliative care.
Sharon is the link lecturer for the acute care children wards in Addenbrookes Hospital where she provides academic support and expertise to all the children's wards in Addenbrookes Hospital. A key function of this role is to foster collaborative working relationships with those functioning and managing clinical areas in the Trust. She assist in educational audits, mentor and student evaluations of placements to evaluate the quality and outcomes of professional education and training. The Education Champion facilitates a link team of senior lecturers to address practice-based issues raised by the Trust staff and students.
Sharon is a NMC reviewer with Mott MacDonald, reviewing and monitoring nursing curriculum.
Research Interest
Sharon is involved in evaluating a local children's respite care service with funds allocated by DH.Currently, she is applying to undertake her PhD in developing educational resources to support the continuous professional development of professionals caring for children with life limiting and life threatening conditions.
