Outline of career

Following my training in Bristol I became a staff nurse on an acute medical ward at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. My career then moved into the Critical Care when I moved back to Bristol to take up a post on the Intensive Care Unit at Frenchay Hospital. This ITU was the tertiary referral centre for the South West for neurosurgical patients and those with severe head injuries- generally as the result of trauma. The unit was also the Burn centre for the South West and also provided care for the general critically ill population in Bristol.

I then moved to take up the post of Practice Development Nurse on the ITU at Oldchurch Hospital in Romford.

More recently I have been working in education formerly at the University Campus Suffolk, teaching acute and critical care and now in the Acute Care team at Anglia Ruskin University.

Research interest

I am currently a PhD candidate studying at City University London. My study is to explore the patient experience of receiving nursing care within the intensive care unit. This is a grounded theory study.
