Outline of career

Dr Wrycraft qualified as a mental health nurse in 1999 and worked in a range of clinical roles within mental health nursing in adult and older peoples' services, before gaining a post in research development with a PCT in 2003.

In 2004 Nick began working with Anglia Ruskin University on the Graduate worker in mental health course before becoming involved in the pre-registration mental health nursing course. Nick has worked with a range of other mental health related professional training courses, and is currently the admissions tutor for the pre-registration mental health nursing Degree.

Nick has had involvement in supporting the development of clinical supervision within primary care settings as a requirement of the CQC, and his Doctoral thesis was based on this subject.

Dr Wrycraft edited: "An introduction to mental health nursing" in 2009, which aims to demystify mental health for students. The book is written in an accessible style and intended to be a useful companion text for mental health nursing students during their training. An eagerly awaited further book will soon be available, called: "Case studies in mental health nursing" which will be published in August, 2012. The book provides a range of case studies across the lifespan discussing different mental health issues. Both publications are with McGraw-Hill: Open University press.

Dr Wrycraft is currently working on further joint publication projects with other authors, and interested in considering further ideas and opportunities for joint working and publication.

Research Interests

Nick's research interests include qualitative research methods. He has written his Professional Doctoral thesis on the uses of clinical supervision within staff groups in primary care settings. Previously Nick has carried out several evaluation and research projects and has a particular interest in service development and the interface of primary and secondary mental health services.
