Outline of career
Marie has worked as an academic at Anglia Ruskin University and HSHS since December 2003 and became a Senior Lecturer in 2007. She has taught students on both the 18 month and 3 year pre-registration midwifery programmes and is particularly interested in the areas of neonatal care and the management of neonatal and obstetric emergencies. Marie also teaches midwives and neonatal nurses undertaking 'Examination of the Newborn' and 'Neonatal Nursing' Continuing Professional Development Modules. Prior to working in education Marie worked as a Midwife and Neonatal Nurse in Cambridge, Kent, London and South Africa.Having moved from England to South Africa at the age of 13, Marie completed her High School education in Amanzimtoti, and undertook a 4 year pre-registration Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (1987-1990), training in Durban, South Africa. Having gained her Nursing and Midwifery registration in South Africa, Marie worked in various areas of nursing and midwifery in order to meet the requirements for Nurse Registration in the UK in 1992; and completed Midwifery Adaptation training to register as a Midwife with the NMC in 1998.
