Outline of Career
Following graduation Carolyn spent eight years in industry in roles involving staff and trainee development and IT systems development. In 2000 she joined what was about to become the new Learning and Skills Council (LSC) where she held the position of Workforce Development Manager, managing workforce development projects and funds. This led to an introduction to the Skills for Life strategy, and a move into adult education, where Carolyn held positions as volunteer, numeracy tutor and Skills for Life team leader.Since 2005 Carolyn has worked for Anglia Ruskin University on a part then full-time basis, primarily developing and delivering teacher education courses (e.g. DTLLS SfL) in the Lifelong Learning sector. Concurrently Carolyn has worked for ACER, developing and supporting numeracy teacher education events in the Eastern Region.
Research interests
Carolyn has undertaken strands of research relating to developing DTLLS programmes, including introducing blended learning, developing mentors and introducing a VARK patchwork method of assessment. She is interested in developing group learning in adult numeracy classes, and investigating teaching approaches which promote deeper learning and the (longer term) application of numeracy learning in learners' lives. The latter will be taken forward in my MA dissertation, starting 2011-12.
