• Carole is a Senior Lecturer in Early Primary Education and Literacy.

Outline of Career

After graduating from Essex University with a degree in English, Carole has worked in infant schools in North East Essex for nearly twenty years as a class teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and has held leadership roles for literacy and assessment and planning. Her experience as a SENCO contributed significantly to her MEd which was completed at Cambridge.

Following on from this Carole took a year's sabbatical to study for a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Essex University.

Carole is interested in creative partnerships in education, founded on a personal interest in writing and the arts. A Certificate in HE in Creative Writing enabled her to develop her approaches to writing and to contribute to and facilitate creative writing workshops for adults.

Research interests

Carole has carried out research on speech and language impairment (SLI) in relation to the development of narrative skills as well as picture naming with reference to conditions of word length and frequency, again with children identified with SLI.
