Outline of career
Andrew started his academic career after completing a PhD in the School of Animal Biology at University College, Bangor (University of Wales). He took up the position of Research Fellow in the Medical School at the University of Birmingham (1982-1985) following which he secured a Lecturer post at Guy's Hospital Medical & Dental School (University of London; 1985), which later merged to become the United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals (UMDS; University of London; 1987). This was followed by a position as Senior lecturer at the Institute of Health Studies, Colchester (and Associate lecturer, University of Essex ; 1990-1995), and Senior lecturer at Anglia Polytechnic University (now Anglia Ruskin) in 1995. He is now Reader in the Department of Allied Health & Medicine, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education. Previous roles have included Director of Research Degrees Students (1999-2005) and he remains active in doctoral supervision and developments. To date he has successfully supervised 8 PhD students to completion, with 3 other students on track to complete during 2013.Research Interests

- Bioscience in healthcare practice and education; concepts of homeostasis
- Research capacity and capability in health and social care.
