Outline of career
As a result of completing the Higher Diploma in Radiography (Diagnostic), Hilary developed an interest in research and undertook a Masters Degree in Health Studies. This triggered an interest in health policy and further increased her interest in health services research.Hilary was awarded a South East Thames Research Training Fellowship which enabled her to be seconded to the Centre for Health Service Studies (CHSS) at the University of Kent to undertake a full-time PhD. Following the successful completion of her PhD exploring the significance of delay in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, Hilary continued to work at CHSS and was involved in research projects with carers, and older people.
Hilary then moved Canterbury Christ Church University where she worked as senior lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography contributing both to radiography specific modules and the interprofessional learning programme teaching, and PhD supervision. In 2006 she was seconded two days a week into the Sidney de Haan research centre for arts and health, where she was an active member of the research team involved in a number of projects including: evaluating the impact of singing on the health and well-being of older people, and a feasibility assessment of the effectiveness of participating in creative activities on the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Hilary joined the Allied Health & Medicine Department at Anglia Ruskin University in November 2011 and as a member of the interprofessional learning programmed team contributes to the Masters Framework in the Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education.
Research Interest
Although she has worked on a number of different research projects, Hilary's main research interests are the delivery and organisation of cancer services, the care of older people, and the potential impact on health and wellbeing of participating in the arts.Selected Publications
