Outline of career

Dr. Jennifer Lim is a health behavioural scientist. She was previously a Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Leeds, UK, where she has been working for over 13 years. She has led and collaborated in many projects on health policy, evidence-based medicine, public health, health inequalities, and global health. Her research covers primary and secondary care in the UK, as well as public health at the international level.

As a research methodologist, Dr. Lim has expertise in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research approaches, as well as considerable experience in research synthesis.

Dr. Lim set up and leads the first Psychosocial Cancer Research Network between UK, Southeast Asia and Middle East (UK-SEA-ME network) to facilitate global health research on breast cancer in the Asia Pacific region. In this Network, her research aims to examine the burden of cancer due to delayed and late presentation, diagnosis and treatment in UK, Malaysia, Singapore and the UAE. Within the network, she also conducts knowledge transfer activities aims to build capacity on research methodologies and improve the evidence base in the subject area.

Dr. Lim holds several Adjunct Professorial positions internationally. These are at the McGill University (Canada), University of Malaya (Malaysia) and the University of United Arab Emirates (UAE). Within the UK, She frequently carries out review of research grant applications for the National Institute of Healthcare Research Service Delivery Organisation; the Medical Research Council; the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Clinical Evaluation and Trials Programme; and the National Research Ethics Service (NRES).



Research Interests

Dr. Lim's current research is on
  • The development of better understanding of attitudes, decision making and behaviour; family history of cancer: the public health value of family history and individuals' responses to knowledge of having a family history of disease. This research aims to enable behavioural change through the development and piloting of interventions, acceptable and appropriate to local context.
  • Health improvement and quality of care and services (healthcare management) in multicultural societies: attitudes, perceptions and experiences, organisational response to provide quality, efficient and equitable health care and services; and
  • public health intervention to improve breast cancer screening.
