Mental Health
The Department of Mental Health offers a range of contemporary and innovative part-time continuing education courses and modules and we are committed to excellence in Health & Social Care research and education, both nationally and internationally. Our courses and modules are designed to address some of the most pressing challenges facing health and social care professionals working with people requiring care, support and treatment for their mental health.
Our Mental Health lecturers work in partnership with service user groups and NHS & Primary Care Trusts and the courses and modules address the requirements of modern practice. These include BSc (Hons) Mental Health (via distance learning), Enhanced Physical Care Skills for Mental Health Practice, and Caring for People with Dementia. We also offer postgraduate modules and courses including Mental Health & Offending Behaviour and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Our courses and modules address the key targets set out within the cross-government mental health outcomes strategy for people of all ages - 'No Health Without Mental Health' (DH, 2011) where user participation, partnership working, collaborative practice and multi-professional working are fundamental. The majority of the modules may be taken health and social care professionals from any discipline; some may be taken by users, carers and care workers.
The department is dedicated to working on research opportunities within Mental Health For further information please visit our research webpages.
