Faculty of Education

Our Faculty of Education is one of the leading providers of Educational Studies and Teacher Training in the Eastern region of the United Kingdom.

The strength of the Faculty is built upon an active and imaginative research emphasis that permeates our learning, teaching, consultancy and international activities. Indeed, our leading edge practice comes from energetic professional academic and research staff who challenge students in all areas of Education.

Organisations involved with providing services to children - from nursery, pre-school to primary and secondary schools, to voluntary groups, social and healthcare services - will be teaming up in new ways, working to protect children and enabling them to achieve their personal goals in life. We see our role as responding to the development needs of the children's services professionals. We aim to do this by providing a flexible range of qualifications that meet the requirements of new career structures for the whole children's workforce.

Our Faculty offers an extensive programme of education and training for prospective and experienced teachers, as well as for aspiring early years learning support and teaching assistant practitioners. Courses can lead to Qualified Teacher Status or Professional Practitioner Status (such as EYPS or HLTA), depending on the study route chosen.

Choice is a key theme in the Faculty. Many of our students opt for part-time study to fit in with full-time jobs, whilst some choose online learning. Our BA (Hons) Learning Through Technology is an example of a fully online course of study which fits in well with teaching assistants, health workers, school ICT technicians and banks.

Foundation Degrees continue to grow in demand and reputation. Our Foundation Degrees in Early Years, Playwork and Education, and Cultural Services reflect strong interests in child development and culture, sport and media.

Together with a portfolio of Postgraduate Programmes, Master's Degrees in Education and Learning and Teaching, plus an active Doctoral Programme, our Faculty offers an array of study routes that have UK and international appeal.
